On February 15, Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman conduct the international roundtable talk “Gender in the Academy: the status quo”. Scientists, gender studies researchers, students and community activists gathered to addressed gender equality issues in today’s Ukrainian scientific and educational environment.
Participants of the international roun table discussion met with international experts from Sweden, Iceland, Germany, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Activists and NGO “Poruch” attended the event, moreover, NGO was co-organizer of this event.

David Kereselidze, Professor in Private Law, expert of the reform of Georgian higher education, doctor honoris causa by the University of Georgia (2010), Rector of the University of New Vision (Tbilisi, Georgia);
Marion Woelki, Head of the Equal Opportunities Council of the University of Konstanz (Germany);
Maja Bosnic, coordinator of the project “Gender Budgeting in Ukraine” (the GRB Project, 2013-2018). The five-year GRB Project is financed by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA);
Serhiy Leshchenko, Ukrainian journalist, politician and public activist, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Member of the Committee on Counteraction and Prevention of Corruption;
Maria Tyshchenko, Executive Director of the NGO “Poruch” and Justin Santana Miranda, NGOs intern interested in gender studies, Malmö universitet student.
The NGO “Poruch” team recognizes and supports the principles of equal access to education, the creation of equal opportunities for development and employment for a woman, the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.
In her presentation, Ms. Maria Tyshchenko speaks about NGO “Poruch” activities in the direction that help solve or mitigate gender issues in Ukrainian educational field. Ms. Justin S. Miranda presentation concerns a concept of neutral language and the importance of its implementation in educational institutions.
