“Our specialists work in communities across Kherson Oblast to support families with children who are facing stressful life circumstances. Each member of staff internalises the life stories of the families they work with. They not only need to remain emotionally resilient themselves but also be able to support those they engage with. Working with children during activities also requires specific skills,” said Liudmyla Murakhovska, project manager at NGO Poruch.
Over the course of three days, psychologists, social workers, information support assistants and administrators took part in both theoretical and practical sessions to develop tools for their continued work in communities. The participants are now equipped to further support families affected by the war – with a renewed set of skills and competencies, including:
understanding the fundamentals of emotional intelligence,
self-regulation and emotional recovery techniques,
empathetic engagement with children and adults,
positive parenting.
As a reminder, the civil society organisation Poruch, in partnership with UNICEF, is implementing a programme to support families with children in Beryslav Raion, Kherson Oblast. Since its launch, the programme has provided individual support to 450 children, while nearly 1,900 children, parents and guardians have gained access to psychological and psychosocial support.
