Thank you to everyone who joined us in Västerås for the screening and discussion of The War They Play, an investigative documentary by The Kyiv Independent in partnership with NGO Poruch

The film offers a powerful and deeply concerning look at the systematic indoctrination and militarization of Ukrainian children in russian -occupied territories. Through verified documents and firsthand testimonies, it reveals how children are being integrated into paramilitary youth movements and taught to view war as a normal part of life.

The screening was followed by a thoughtful panel discussion featuring journalist Olesia Bida from The Kyiv Independent, Maria Tyschenko, Kateryna Koverznieva, Peter Langerbäck, and Vice Mayor Vicki Skure Eriksson. Together, they explored the impact of occupation on children and families, the role of education during conflict, human rights concerns, the importance of documenting war crimes, and the responsibility of the international community to protect children's rights.

These conversations remind us that behind every statistic is a human story. By listening, learning, and sharing these stories, we help ensure that the realities of occupation and war are not forgotten.

Thank you to all participants, organizers, panelists, and attendees who contributed to this important dialogue. Together, we stand for truth, accountability, and the protection of democratic values and human rights.
